Having visited Hummingbird first in May 2005, I arrived to enter the Exploring Community Phase in September 2005. I crossed the threshold to become an Apprentice Steward in December 2006 and as of February 2008, have become a Community Steward . Co-creativity, alchemy, conscious evolution, and open-hearted relationship is what I surrender to. I practice and blossom with this community; with Gaia and Spirit; with an enlivened soul. And so it is – laughter, love, tears, joy and communion. I am a life-long artist, yoga teacher since 1993, and co-creator of the Dancing Colors Arts and Media Center (Sculpture, painting, dance, movement, music, media, and the art therapies.
Robert Griffin ~ Community Steward
Over the last few years, I have come to recognize more clearly, and to validate, what has been within me all along: a deep passion for experiencing true intimacy and love. From that, the question arises: How can we relate to and share with each other, individually and in community, and to the Earth our home, in ways that acknowledge our intimate connectedness, and that recognize the effect that each of our actions has upon all our relations, moving us toward a growing care, enlivenment, and joy for ourselves, each other, and the planet. In my search for others with whom I could share my passion, I found Hummingbird. There is a deep love field here that supports each to be and to become who we really are, an acceptance that encourages me to come forward, to meet life, to give of myself and receive others even amidst the reality of what happens when evolving characters rub up against each other. There’s no place I‘d rather be in service to the emergence of a new way of living together, a new template of loving together.
Mark Courtman ~ Apprenticing Steward
I was most definitely led by my Soul to be at Hummingbird. I love community life, and our focus to be stewards of living a sane, sustainable, loving lifestyle. It is also heart opening to have my neighbors support me and each other in our individual and collective souls’ mission. I owned a natural food store for nineteen years, and co-founded a charter school in the inner city of
Jamie Shah ~ Non-Resident Apprenticing Steward
I first arrived at Hummingbird as an Intern, ready to dive in and assist Katharine with summer programs at the Ranch. I very quickly fell in love with this beautiful Intentional Community, so knowledgable and co-creative in circular and shared leadership models. It felt quite easy to follow what I organically discovered was my purpose in this community: to nurture and host those who walk the land as visitors, program participants, etc. and introduce the magic and healing properties of this land; creating a safe space to just be. I took on the responsibility of Assistant Program's Director in the Summer of 2006 and enjoyed it so much that I moved into the role of Program's Manager for the Ranch in 2007. In November 2008, I felt my calling to do more outward service in the greater community and beyond and moved to Boulder, CO where I now permanently reside. I continue to engage with Hummingbird Community activities and work in a consulting capacity with the Education Team.
In other news: I was born and brought up in Toronto, Canada to amazing parents, I am East Indian and love to cook all types of food, especially spicy! I lived in Japan for two years in a small fisherman's town and engaged in the dynamic Japanese culture, enjoying every minute of my immersion. Currently, I am in the process of completing my Master's Thesis on the Intentional Communities Movement and continue to engage in projects and literature that foster learnings of circular service, leadership and management practices. I continue to engage my heart, mind, soul and body to do more for humanity...to cultivate balance in my relationships, to help in the quest to bring about positive change to our environment and to live in harmony with our Earth.
